From history to reality
Latteria Agricola San Pietro is a cheese-making Cooperative which produces Grana Padano DOP.
The cooperative was founded in the upper Po Valley in 1966, when 31 members, who rear their cattle exclusively
on fodder harvested from the permanent grasslands of the Mincio valley, came together to produce
this renowned cheese.

Today the members continue the journey begun by those founders, with an extraordinary economic and industrial dedication to a product whose long history - over 1000 years - speaks of the labours of men, animals and nature, which imbue it with the flavours of an extraordinary land.  The hay from the permanent grasslands, the staple food of our cattle, transmits all the season's goodness to the milk.
The experience and hard work of our members and collaborators do the rest. The production premises have a fully-equipped processing room and extensive ageing rooms, allowing us to transform 30,000 tonnes of milk a year and ripen over 50,000 wheels of Grana Padano DOP. All the milk used comes from our members' farms.
 
San Pietro quality
High quality and safety for the consumer are fundamental objectives for Latteria San Pietro: a stringent system of checks on production processes and hygiene conditions allows us to obtain a product that is traditional, but also extremely safe.
On delivery, the milk is tested for chemical, physical and microbiological properties, to ensure that the raw material complies with the criteria stipulated by the Grana Padano Production Guidelines and industry standards.
Every stage of the processing is then supervised by the expert eye of the cheese-maker, whose extensive experience guarantees production of a Grana Padano which fulfils all the requisites necessary for a safe and healthy food product.
 
Nutritional properties
 
Meticulous checks on the quality of our cheeses accompanies the product right to the consumer's table, guaranteeing a genuine, tasty and authentic cheese. What makes San Pietro Grana Padano a complete food, beneficial to the health and well-being of children, adolescents, pregnant women, athletes and the elderly, is its excellent balance between energy and the quality and quantity of the nutrients it contains.

Grana Padano is a hard cheese made from milk partially skimmed by natural separation.  Its energy value is lower than that of many common foods which provide far fewer nutrients. Thanks to the ageing process, 20% of the proteins become free amino acids, which can stimulate the activity of digestive enzymes. Grana Padano is lactose-free and can therefore be included in the diet of people who are intolerant of this sugar found in milk.

50 g of Grana Padano provides fully 600 milligrammes of calcium, the equivalent of 60% of the daily requirement for adults and the elderly, 50% for adolescents and 43% of the amount required by pregnant or breastfeeding women.

Grana Padano
minimum 12 months

The youngest of our cheeses, with a soft consistency and a delicate flavour, ideal for children's palates,
and particularly recommended for mealtime use. Excellent as a condiment for meats and vegetables, ideal as an aperitif or flaked and added to a fresh salad or a beef carpaccio.
 
Grana Padano Riserva
minimum 20 months

This is a more crumbly cheese with a lasting flavour. Best eaten in flakes as an aperitif, accompanied by a lightly sparkling white wine or a soft, full-bodied red, or grated over soups, risottos and pasta dishes to bring out their flavour.
 
Grana Padano Riserva
minimum 30 months

A unique cheese, well-structured with a consistent texture, an intense aroma and the perfect balance of richness and piquancy. Excellent grated over first courses and wonderful to finish a meal; goes very well with intense, full-bodied red wine or a good Italian passito "meditation wine".
